"THERE IS NO GREATER AGONY THAN BEARING AN UNTOLD STORY INSIDE YOU"
- MAYA ANGELOU
Why are you crying my dear one?
Do you see children suffering?
Do you see them dying
and falling in the dark?
Who can continue to see
this sad disagreeable story?
In the past,
our ancestors have fought
for freedom.
Do you want to give up now?
Brothers are you blind?
Are you mute and deaf?
I would like to know why
you see nothing and hear nothing.
You also say nothing.
It is time to make a decision
to live.
-Sabrina, age 17
Haiti used to sing like a mockingbird
in the windows of everyone,
everywhere,
with nothing or everything
long ago, long ago, oh, long ago.
Pouki
Pouki kounyeya tout ayisyen divize
Yo pa vle mèt tèt ansanm
Pou ayiti tounen jan l te ye
Pou nou ka soude, pou n rete djanm.
Pouki nou kite trayizon mete pye
Pou se lòt moun kap dirije n
Nou bliye natyonalite n
Menm bliye, nou bliye kiyès nou te ye
Pouki nou pa sonje pwomès nou fè
Lè n te fin leve drapo byen wo
Kounyeya n’ap fè tèt nou pase mizè
Nan yon bèl ti peyi kite rele kiskeya ou boyo. Desrosiers Sabrina.
