Our Book
The girls have courageous stories to tell of their lives and their fortitude and their love for their country. They would like to write a book together with their narratives and their poetry, to learn the business of publishing, social media and accounting. Each of the girls wants to go on to University and desrves the best education.
Poet Claudine St.Fleur, age 24, visited the camp almost every week for three years. She encouraged the girls' writing, providing writing prompts and listened and edited their poetry with them.
One of the girls decided to become a storyteller. On her own she began learning Haitian folklore. Three of the girls volunteered to help mentor young children in the camp - reading them stories and writing down their experiences in the camp. In their schools, they have begun to offer readings and mentoring of other youth.
The girls write every day. Their notebooks are precious possessions.
